A non-attorney representative is a highly skilled professional service. Hence, while disability representation is complex, there are few barriers to entering this field. Social Security creates the regulations and provides the foundation for this service. Moreover, Social Security refrains from using obstacles to access. Thus, SSA has generously provided an entry to this fantastic opportunity.

Basic Qualification to Enter

Those with high school diplomas can enter the field of non-attorney representation. However, you are required to have experience. Thus, you must have the basic knowledge needed to win a disability claim. You acquire this skill by taking a comprehensive training course.

What about Degrees?

Those with no degree usually have experience. You learn disability representation through field experience or education. A degree is not required. However, having a degree gives you a certification advantage. New advocates with degrees are not required to have experience.  They can sit for the examination without restriction. However, we still strongly recommend a minimum of one year of experience to assure success on the exam.

While disability advocacy is one of the easiest businesses to start, there are still basic qualifications. For instance, restrictions to service are not unusual for convicted felons.
